La Tomatina festival is the world's famous food fight held in the Valencia town of Bunol in Spain on the last Wednesday of August every year since 1945. The festival this year attracted tens of thousands of tourists and locals who threw tonnes of tomatoes at one another. Photo credit:Alberto Saiz/Ap Before the festival began trucks delivered 160tonnes of ripe tomatoes from Extremadura, where the tomatoes are less expensive. The firing of water cannons signals the beginning of the fight, a brave soul climbs to the top of a two storyey high, greased-up wooden pole and reached the coveted ham at the top. In practice this process takes a long time and the festival starts despite no one reaching the meaty Price. Participants pelt one another with tomato pulp and streets are awash with tomatoes.
